FreeIQ - What content is allowed?

In my last post (FreeIQ - What is it?) I gave a very quick overview of what Free IQ really is.  Before I start getting into the details of how things work, I think we need to cover what FreeIQ.com is NOT.

FreeIQ.com it is NOT:

  • A site to post funny, silly or otherwise lewd behaviors for humor or other reasons.  If you have a great video of you and your friend lip syncing to Madona, don't post it here.  That's what YouTube and Google Video are for.  ;-)
  • FreeIQ.com is not intended for video's of crashes, bumps, bloopers.
  • It is not just for purely entertainment purposes.
  • It is NOT a site for you to put others copy written materials.  FreeIQ requires that the person posting the video, audio or written content has the ownership of the copyright for such material.  By the way, these matters will be taken very seriously and offending content will be pulled.  A complaint process will be available if you think others have infringed on YOUR copyrights.   By the way, this even applies to backing music.  If you don't own the rights, don't put a version of ZZTop's "Sharp Dressed Man" as your backing music as you walk onto the stage in your fancy new suit, no matter how cool it may sound.
  • The content you post should NOT be a blatant "sales pitch".  No selling from the stage if you will.  This means that the content should stand on it's own and still provide valuable information to the person watching.  Don't make it a commercial.  If your video or audio ends with "Here's how to buy my other stuff, buy it NOW", you are probably selling too hard.  If the viewer has truly received value from your "presentation" they will seek out what else you have to offer - paid or otherwise.

Content control is likely going to be a big challenge for Free IQ.  Keeping the "web junk" from flooding the site will take some effort.  As a result, FreeIQ.com will need to implement some content screening processes to ensure that the amount of video spam is minimal.   I imagine they will also have processes in place for users to somewhat self police the community and report offending video's and audios.  This should help keep the "junk" out.

So what IS allowed?

To paraphrase their terms of service, FreeIQ encourages people to submit content that meets a few simple guidelines.
1. The content should give users valuable information - in a sense, it should teach.
2. It should be presented by true subject matter experts.
3. The video should impart skills, techniques, ideas, knowledge and information.

To be very clear, FreeIQ.com is not just about business or marketing.  Anyone with something valuable to teach can play in this new game.  Whether that be marketing, list building, teaching a parrot to talk, how to knit a sweater or building a business from the ground up, it's all fair game.   Again, as long as you are teaching or imparting knowledge, you can post your stuff.  But make it good, because the users decide where you rank.

So, regardless whether the information is presented as knowledge for it's own sake, or for financial gain, Free IQ considers all of these to be valuable.

I hope that's clear.  And feel free to post a comment or question.  I'll do my best to answer it in future posts.

That's it for this one…..

And get ready….the FreeIQ wave is coming.
